Seedling Art Space - 'and so they stood.....waiting', an interactive installation, Hawthorndene, SA. 2012
'and so they stood......waiting'. This exhibition at Seedling Art Space, Hawthorndene, SA. developed into an interactive installation beyond my expectations. Viewers were invited to collect some wool from the old pump shed and do what they would like. either connect to each 'tree' or wind many rounds round an individual 'tree'.
My artist statement referred to the incursion of the Monteray Pines into the new Eucalyptus saplings with the danger of them being compromised. I had spent some time examining the flora of this area parts of which had previously been developed as an orchard.
I visualized this landscape and place before colonisation. The small group of slender eucalypt saplings settled by the pump shed with the aged, rotund gums flanking the greater area of the park - standing solidly, like forebears watching over their great grandchildren - suggest a harmony and stability, endangered by the presence of introduced species.
